Louisiana’s subdivisions are not often the site of the type of devastation that took place in one located in the northern part of the state recently. That is where a car and motorcycle collided, resulting in a fatal accident. At last report, the crash was still under investigation.
The motorcycle was heading east toward the entrance to the subdivision in question. A passenger vehicle was exiting the area when it slammed into the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was thrown off his vehicle. At that point, another vehicle hit him.
The rider survived long enough to be taken to a hospital in the Shreveport area. Sadly, medical personnel were not able to save his life, and he succumbed to his injuries. Whether anyone else suffered injuries in the collision was not reported.
The road was closed while authorities conducted their investigation and the scene was cleared. It is not yet known whether one or both of the drivers were somehow impaired. There is also no word on what charges, if any, will be filed in connection with the crash and the death of the motorcycle rider.
While authorities work out the details of this fatal accident and determine whether to file criminal charges against the driver that survived the crash, the family of the deceased motorcycle rider is grieving for his loss and burying him prematurely. The family retains the right to file a wrongful death claim, seeking financial damages under Louisiana law. To prevail, they will need to prove to the court hearing the lawsuit that the biker’s death was caused by the negligence of the car driver. Any monetary damages received by the family could defray the expenses the family more than likely unexpectedly incurred as a result of this tragedy.
