It would be inaccurate to state that the only victims of medical malpractice cases in Louisiana and elsewhere, are the individuals directly impacted by the medical error or negligence. Family members of the directly-impacted individual can be victimized as well. The parents of a child or the spouse that loses their love are both victimized by medical errors by extension.
While some medical malpractice victims seek compensation as a vehicle to repay costly medical expenses, other victims in Louisiana and elsewhere pursue medical malpractice lawsuits as a deserved form of justice because in the wake of a fatal doctor error, that may be all that is left to offer.
One father recently filed a claim against a doctor and nurse for committing what he says was a medically unnecessary reversal of sedation on his son. The father says this revival “ultimately lead to the decedent’s preventable death,” and he wants justice.
The father says that law officials were pushing to revive his son from his medically-induced sedation for purposes of arraignment. It is reported that the victim was stopped by officers while riding in a car and that officers allegedly assaulted him. It was at the time that the victim was in the hospital that officials sought revival.
There is no amount of compensation that will revive the victim or reunite this father with his son. However, compensation could give the father some peace of mind that justice has been served and his son is not forgotten by the law.
