Pedestrians commonly walk along the roadways of Louisiana’s populous cities. Unfortunately, there are inherent dangers to being a pedestrian when mixed with vehicles on the roadway. Understandably, they are more vulnerable to injury or death when they are struck by vehicles. A recent accident illustrates just how tragic a pedestrian versus car accident can be.
A car recently struck a 50-year-old man as he was crossing a street in resulting in his death. According to reports, the accident happened shortly after midnight. Police officers arrived on the scene and found the man lying in the road. He was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
Officials say that the driver of the car that struck the man has been cooperating with police and remained at the scene of the accident. Reports do not indicate whether police are looking for charges to be filed against the driver. The only details that have been released are that the pedestrian was attempting to cross Airline Highway when the vehicle, which was traveling on the highway, struck him.
As police continue to investigate this car accident, one of their areas of focus will likely be in pinpointing exactly what led to this man’s death. Should it be discovered that the driver of the car was negligent in any way that led to this accident, the family of the victim may choose to seek legal recourse for their loss. Louisiana has personal injury laws in place designed to protect those injured, or the family of someone killed in an accident due to the negligence of another party. Successfully litigated personal injury claims can make a tremendous difference in the lives of a victim’s family as they look toward the future following a tragic loss.
