So far, not many details are available regarding a recent head-on collision. The car accident took place on Louisiana 25 at approximately 6:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered that one of the drivers was from their department.
What caused the accident still needs to be determined by the Louisiana State Police. All that is known at this time is that the impact of the collision trapped the drivers of both vehicles in the wreckage. Approximately 12 firefighters responded to the scene to help free the drivers from their vehicles.
Once the St. Tammany Parish firefighter was extricated, he was taken to the hospital for treatment of the injuries he suffered. At last report, he was considered to be in stable condition. The current condition of the other driver is not known at this time.
Two months ago, the man joined Fire District 12 as a new recruit. Reportedly, it was his day off, and he headed out that morning to go fishing. As the drivers recover from their injuries, the Louisiana State Police is said to be continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
Until a determination is made regarding which driver was at fault for the car accident, it may benefit both drivers to understand what their rights and responsibilities are in connection with this incident. Whichever party is found to be at fault by authorities could face criminal charges in addition to a personal injury claim filed by the other driver seeking damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. If the party deemed responsible is found to be negligent, the court may award those damages and others allowed under state laws.
